The Tesla Model S is an interesting mix of clean sheet metal surfaces dressed up with complex detailing. The taillight treatment is the car’s least successful design element — it’s gimmicky rather than elegant.
Part of the problem is the mishmash of shapes. To make matters worse, designers tacked on an overly loud band of chrome to frame a downward-arcing character line. This gives the car an overly chunky rear.
