This deceased website described itself as “the first (and only so far) 3D car site” (2018). I’m not surprised that this approach has not taken off in popularity on the Internet because it is hard to read if you don’t happen to have 3D glasses handy. To make matters worse, the designer of Cars In Depth’s website used white words on a black background; this may look stylish but it reduces readability.
Cars In Depth’s website includes a mix of postings on current industry news and automotive history. Stories tend to be short and photo-dominated. No new stories have been posted on the website since late 2017; the most recent entry for their Facebook page was in 2015.
I have pointed out the sexism of a Cars In Depth story about the “Lovely Ladies of the Detroit Auto Show” (2013). Perhaps anticipating reader feedback, the website’s “About C.I.D.” page noted, “We’re not politically correct and if we say something that offends, well, you’re free to start your own website and tell everyone how much we suck” (2018).
