When Indie Auto opened up its comment threads, I failed to “enable” that function on a few older stories. That included, “How Toyota ruined the Scion xB.” So LR used our contact form to offer a response to the article:
You’re absolutely right. I’m a senior citizen. I had a 2004 Scion xb and loved it because it resembled the cute economy cars I’d seen in Paris. Through children intimidating me into taking one of their cars, I received a Honda that had been purchased out of salvage. Without knowing the mechanical difference, I replaced it with a 2008 xb, which looks like a boring Kia Soul, gets less gas mileage, and I don’t expect it to get the 2 to 3 hundred thousand miles of the earlier models. I’m looking to sell it.
I’m also in the process of writing to Toyota’s CEO Toyada to beg him to bring back the original Xb. They blew it! I’ve never met anyone who doesn’t love their older cars. They reminded me of the old VW Golfs that would go for 300 thousand miles or go 300 miles on $50 worth of gas.
