Automotive historian Patrick R. Foster sells books through his mail-order bookstore, Olde Milford Press.
As you might expect, Foster offers all of the books he has authored. However, you will also find a variety of works by others. The books tend to focus on independent and discontinued brands — and are sometimes not available through the big retailers.
Also as one might expect, the books tend to be oriented more toward the collector/fanboy than the serious student of automotive history. Nevertheless, over the years I have first learned about some useful books by checking the listings at Olde Milford Press.
Perhaps I missed it, but I didn’t see a listing for Marc Cranswick’s The Legend of American Motors (2023). That struck me as surprising given that this is one of the larger and more recent books about American Motors.
Meanwhile, Olde Milford Press does sell mini-books such as Don Narus’s Matador Coupe From American Motors, 1974-1978. This 66-page book has a self-published vibe. Basic product information is included but not much new insight into the controversial car’s development. Fact errors are also present, such as that the 1974 Matador “would now use the Ambassador platform” and that the latter nameplate was retired at the beginning of the model year (2022, p. 1).
Prices tend to be higher than at Amazon.com. However, buying your books through Olde Milford Press supports a small business. Go here for further discussion about using Amazon.com versus an independent retailer.
In addition to books, Olde Milford Press offers for sale illustrations by retired AMC designer Vince Geraci.
