Over the last month I have been so busy with real-world responsibilities that I have had to cut back on the amount of time spent on Indie Auto. It looks like this situation will continue into the winter months, so I am trying to adjust my approach to managing this website.
Rather than cutting back on Indie Auto’s frequency of publication, I have been placing more of an emphasis on reposting content rather than adding new material.
Note that, unlike some other auto history websites, I don’t just hit the repost button. Even smaller pieces are given another round of editing. This includes spot checking facts, improving the wordsmithing and often adding new information and graphics. Sometimes my analysis evolves in response to reader feedback and additional research. Where it makes sense, I am also breaking up longer articles into more-easily-digestible pieces.
One advantage of focusing on repostings is that it frees up at least a little time to tackle lingering operational issues. They include finally making some decisions about shifting to new photo-editing and graphics software and a website platform that better deals with e-newsletters and reader donations.
I say all this to educate folks who may not know that running even a small website like Indie Auto’s involves quite a bit more than merely writing articles and responding to comments. There are lots of things I need to take care of this winter and not much time to do it, so thank you for your understanding — and continued support.
Life’s responsibilities. Don’t worry – we all understand.
