I have long thought that American government could communicate more effectively if it used a senes of humor once in a while. Thus, I was intrigued by this sign on an obscure rural highway in Maui, Hawaii.
Was the sign turned upside down — and put unusually low on its post — to emphasize the size of an impending dip? Or was something else going on?
“Random Shots” is a regular feature that captures sublime and ridiculous moments in American automobile culture.
The top bolt has come out and the sign has spun around on the remaining bottom bolt.
Could be. And this was far enough out in the sticks that the road crew might not have noticed yet. If that’s the case, I’d say that the upside-down sign got my attention more quickly than the regular one.
