MAKE A COMMENT . . .

You can comment on those posts that include a comment box at the bottom of the page. First-time comments must be approved. There may be a time lag between when you submit a comment and when it is posted. This is a solo operation, so your patience is appreciated.

Consider your first comment as a rehearsal of sorts — a way for me to size up whether you show promise in adding to our discussions.

If your first comment is posted, you can subsequently comment without moderation. Of course, the basic rules of comment etiquette still apply: Stay on topic, disagree respectfully, and ground your argument in facts and logic. And please don’t post copyrighted images or other content.

Indie Auto often challenges industry groupthink. Opposing perspectives are invited — as long as they aren’t trollish. If you are not sure what a troll is, check out Wikipedia’s (2021) definition. Go here for further discussion about how we are trying to avoid the toxicity of social media.

Indie Auto’s goal is to cultivate conversations with the insightfulness and civility of a particularly satisfying seminar. Even readers with advanced knowledge of a topic will hopefully come away with a fresh perspective. Of course, learning requires an open mind.

We invite robust debates, but fight fair

Our ground rules are pretty basic. Comments may be deleted for fanboy over-defensiveness, personal attacks and spreading disinformation (such as climate change denialism). This is also not the place to engage in bad-faith debating tactics such as strawman arguments (Grammarly, 2023).

Comments may be edited for dismissive language (pro tip: “strongly disagree” works better than “that’s moronic”). Repeat offenders may be banned from further participation. Go here for specific examples.

Please don’t use the comment threads to sell cars or parts. Our “Bibliography of Links” includes some terrific websites where you can do so.

If your comment includes a link, summarize the content for folks who are quite rightly hesitant to click into an unfamiliar website.

If you would like to inform Indie Auto about your website, do so with a note to the editor (see below) rather than a comment unless your links directly advance the topic we are discussing.
