Indie Auto is a reader-supported blog. The only advertising I post is satirical (go here and here).
Why? First, because this results in more independent-minded journalism and automotive history. I can take risks that an ad-based publication cannot.
Second, because I want to cultivate a direct and ongoing relationship with readers rather than merely selling their eyeballs to advertisers.
Indie Auto relies on an honor system
Unlike a growing number of publications, Indie Auto does not have a paywall. Our business model is grounded in the premise that readers who value what we do will make ongoing donations. You can do so through Stripe.
The minimum donation you can make is $10 but $30 is requested. This is a one-time charge, so you will not receive automatic renewals.
This is such a small operation that I do not have any premiums to offer you — just a big thank you for your financial support. However, this website has more than 1,000 posts on a wide range of topics. If you haven’t already, check out what’s in “All our features,” “Look it up” and “Readings.” And do feel free to join the conversation by commenting.
Questions and answers about making a donation
Why don’t you use Paypal anymore? Some readers had technical issues, and accepting donations through both Paypal and Stripe posed logistical challenges. Stripe has been reset so that you can decide your donation amount rather than paying a set subscription price.
Why can’t I make a donation that automatically renews anymore? Stripe doesn’t simultaneously allow one-time donations and automatic subscription renewals, so I chose the option that gives donors maximum control.
Is my donation tax deductible? Indie Auto publishes content for historical research and educational purposes on a not-for-profit basis. Even so, donations are not tax deductible because I do not operate under a federally recognized nonprofit organization. Indie Auto is published by Olympia, Earth Media, LLC. This is a for-profit company owned and operated by me, your dutiful editor.
How will my donation show up? It may be listed on your credit card as “INDIE AUTO,” “OLYMPIAEARTHMEDIA” or “OLYMPEMEDIA.”
